Where trade fairs are held in Barcelona: the venues
Not all Barcelona trade fairs are held in the same place. The city spreads its shows across several exhibition venues with very different personalities, and knowing which one you’re exhibiting at changes things quite a bit. The logistics, the access, transporting your materials and even the type of stand you can build depend on the venue. Here’s what each one is like.
Fira de Barcelona Gran Via
It’s the largest venue and the one that hosts the heavyweights, such as MWC, ISE, Alimentaria or Smart City Expo. It’s in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, very well connected to the airport and with its own metro stop, so moving materials and receiving visitors is easy.
Its halls are enormous and allow large-format stands, double-decker builds and demanding technical set-ups. If you exhibit here you compete with international brands, and that shows in the level of the stands.
At Gran Via we’ve built dozens of stands for some of the biggest trade fairs in the world. Here are some of our projects.
Fira de Barcelona Montjuïc
It’s the city’s historic venue, next to Plaça Espanya, with its classical-style palaces and an atmosphere full of character. Events such as SIL or Barcelona Wine Week are held here.
As a more distinctive space, it offers plenty of scope for custom stands that make the most of the building’s architecture. It’s also a stone’s throw from the centre, which visitors appreciate.
CCIB – Centre de Convencions Internacional de Barcelona
Next to the Fòrum and the sea, the CCIB is the city’s main convention centre and the home of Barcelona’s major medical and scientific congresses, such as ATTD, EAHP, EACTS or UEG Week. It’s a modern, flexible venue built for conferences with a large exhibition area, where the stand has to combine a clean, professional look with practical spaces for meetings and presentations.
Port Vell
The port of Barcelona is home to the Boat Show, a special fair where much of the exhibition is literally on the water. Building on the docks has its particularities, so it’s worth having someone who already knows the venue.
La Farga de L’Hospitalet
A more compact and specialised venue, home to fairs such as BioCultura. Its size makes it ideal for shows with a loyal, highly segmented audience, where a close, personal approach matters more than large format.
Barcelona exhibitions by sector
Already know when your fair is, but not whether there are more events in your sector? Here are the main Barcelona exhibitions ordered by sector, so you can spot at a glance every opportunity in your market and not miss any throughout the year.
Food and hospitality
Alimentaria, Hostelco and Barcelona Wine Week concentrate all the weight of the gastronomy sector and the HORECA channel. They’re high-volume fairs, with professional visitors who come to taste, compare and close deals, so here the stand has to catch the eye.
At these shows the product is the star and the stand has to live up to it. We design spaces with tasting areas, show-cooking or meeting rooms depending on what you need, made so your brand stands out among so much on offer. Here are some of our stands for the food sector.
Technology
With MWC, ISE and Smart City Expo World Congress, Barcelona is one of Europe’s technology capitals. We’re talking mobile telephony, audiovisual, systems integration and smart cities, sectors where the design bar is set extremely high and everyone wants to stand out.
These are fairs where innovation is in the air and the stand has to convey it, with screens, lighting and demo spaces well integrated. We have plenty of experience building high-impact technology stands. Here are some examples.
Logistics and industry
SIL and Expoquimia bring together professionals from logistics, transport and the chemical industry. They’re very technical, B2B-relationship fairs, where the stand works above all as a space for meetings and demonstrations.
In the industrial sector functionality comes first, and that’s not at odds with a good image. We build solid, practical stands to present machinery and technical products and to close business comfortably. Some of our projects for industry.
Boating
The Barcelona International Boat Show is the sector’s great event at Port Vell, with vessels, accessories and a passionate audience. A unique showcase for brands from the world of the sea.
Exhibiting by the water has its charm, but also its challenges. Building at Port Vell is done on the docks, outdoors and in conditions very different from those of an indoor hall, so it demands planning and outdoor experience.
Whether you present vessels, boating equipment or services for the sector, we design a stand that withstands the environment and reflects the quality of your brand. Tell us about your project and we’ll take care of the rest.
Leisure, health and consumer
BioCultura and ICE Barcelona round off the calendar in two very different ways: organic and responsible consumption on one side, and gaming and iGaming on the other. Two very defined audiences, both very receptive to a good staging.
On top of that are the major health and pharma events that pass through Barcelona, where the stand conveys trust and rigour. Whether it’s leisure, wellbeing or health, we adapt the design to the tone of each fair and its audience. These are some of our works.
Frequently asked questions about exhibitions in Barcelona
These are the most common questions we get about Barcelona’s trade fairs, from which shows there are and which is the biggest to how much it costs to build a stand. We answer them quickly and clearly.
What trade fairs are currently on in Barcelona?
The upcoming professional exhibitions in Barcelona are the Barcelona International Boat Show (October), Smart City Expo World Congress and IBTM World (November).
Throughout the year, the city hosts more than a dozen major shows spread across Fira Gran Via, Montjuïc, Port Vell and La Farga. You’ll find the full month-by-month calendar on this same page.
What are the major trade shows in Barcelona?
Barcelona’s major trade shows include the Mobile World Congress and ISE in technology, Alimentaria and Barcelona Wine Week in food and drink, plus Smart City Expo World Congress, Seafood Expo Global and the Barcelona International Boat Show. Most are held at the Fira de Barcelona Gran Via and Montjuïc venues and at the CCIB convention centre, and they draw thousands of professionals doing business every year.
Which is the biggest trade fair in Barcelona?
The Mobile World Congress (MWC) is Barcelona’s biggest trade fair by impact and international visitors, followed by Alimentaria, a world benchmark for food.
Both are held at Fira de Barcelona Gran Via and bring together thousands of exhibitors, which makes stand design a decisive factor for standing out among so much competition.
How much does an exhibition stand for a trade fair in Barcelona cost?
The price of a stand depends on the square metres, the design, the materials and the services (furniture, audiovisuals, assembly and dismantling).
A simple modular stand starts from modest budgets, while a custom-designed stand is a bigger investment but with far more impact. The best approach is to request a personalised quote based on your fair, your space and your goals.
